MMH Open House brought many through the hospital on tour

Open House Tours and Program on Sun., April 18th - Fun for Everyone!
Between a VIP Event hosted on Sat., April 17th and the Open House on Sun., April 18th, Meeker Memorial Hospital had over 800 people come through the completed expansion/renovation project.
On Sun., Dave Gabrielson, MMH Hospital Chairman, Pastor Keith Carlson, MMH Board member and Kyle Rasmussen, CEO highlighted the program and dedication by giving an account of the hard work, courage, foresight and vision many people gave to complete the $26.5 million dollar expansion/renovation project. They thanked the community for their support and announced that the MMH Invest In the Future Campaign surpassed the $1.5 million dollar challenge goal. This would not have been possible without the many generous donations from employees, medical staff, area businesses and community members.
The community was able to tour the hospital starting at the new Open Door Gift Shop, new business office, multi-denominational chapel, new laboratory patient care area to the Prairie Winds Cafe' with piano music, surgical/endoscopy and radiology departments on the first level. At points along the tour, healthy foods were both on display and provided at different points of interest. Rehabilitation services, cardiac rehab, specialty clinics and the new sleep study suites were on the second level tour. Next, a patient care room and ob suite were shown on the third level with a final stop on the lower level to visit the boiler room for an ice cream cone to round out the tour. An alumni gathering took place on the lower level, giving the chance for past employees to gather and reminisce. Children’s activities and flu shots were also available. All in all, the many volunteers, employees and community had a enjoyable day.
We thank the many people in the community for the tremendous support throughout the project and who joined us in celebration!

The Invest In the Future Campaign was set to raise 1.25 million dollars to help off-set the costs associated with construction. The MMH Foundation passed that goal in the spring of 2009, so a new challenge goal of 1.5 million dollars was set. Thanks to the many supporters - MMH is ready to reach the challenge goal.

Meeker Memorial Hospital progress ... again in 2010.

This collage shows hospital history of the past 100 years, news clips from many important moments demonstrating progress with some words to describe the significance.
During the hospital dedication program held on Sun., April 18, 2010, David Gabrielson, Hospital Board Chairman read the quote of State Senator Stanley Holmquist. Holmquist made this statement on Aug. 20, 1969 during a MCMH Groundbreaking for the East Addition. "Humans are adverse to change, and if you wait until everyone is satisfied with a proposed change you'd never have progress. I pay tribute to the people who had the initiative to go ahead with the project. Hospital facilities, along with churches and educational facilities, are areas in which no community can afford to lag." Gabrielson went on to tell how this project involved many people who proceeded with courage to complete the new Meeker Memorial Hospital expansion/renovation. He along with Kyle Rasmussen, MMH CEO thanked these people for their vision and foresight and thanked the community for its tremendous community support.

Meeker Memorial Hospital Chapel Blessing

A formal blessing marks the end of construction and the beginning of use. On Tuesday, February 16th, members of Litchfield Area Ministerial Association (LAMA) joined hands with hospital staff, volunteers and visitor for the blessing of the new Meeker Memorial Hospital Chapel.
Meeker Memorial Hospital strives to provide holistic care that nurtures patients' minds, bodies and spirits; nevertheless, with all the activity that takes place in a hospital, it can be challenging to find a quiet place to gather thoughts. But thanks to the vision of many people a new Chapel was included in the expansion/renovation.
Pastor Mike Zylstra, Litchfield Christian Church provided the theme for the chapel campaign project "Embracing Family Wellness – Nurturing Spiritual Wholeness." His theme summarizes the faith community partnering with the Hospital in a holistic approach to reach our goal. A key point for the ministerial support is as a County Hospital, we want to serve all faiths – churched and unchurched- and be certain that philanthropy is used for all the costs associated with the chapel.

Meeker County Memorial Hospital (MCMH) welcomes Dr. Simon to the Center for Senior Behavioral Health

Dr. John E. Simon
Psychiatrist Specializing in Geriatric Psychiatry
Dr. John E. Simon recently started practicing in-patient care at MCMH and has a wealth of expertise to offer the geriatric community and the facility. Dr. Simon received his medical training at the University of Nebraska and moved to Minnesota to practice medicine shortly after his graduate studies.
His interest in geriatric care started in 1980 when he began working in nursing homes, treating seniors and helping with illnesses.
“The senior community is underserved right now, and I enjoy the work I do with members of the geriatric community,” says Dr. Simon. “I find the work gratifying, and I can apply my experience and training in Litchfield.”
Dr. Simon treats patients at MCMH three days a week (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday) at the eight-bed Center for Senior Behavioral Health in the hospital. He says he finds the community welcoming and enjoys working here.
One of the biggest challenges Dr. Simon sees for the geriatric community is early diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. With early diagnosis, Dr. Simon says medical treatments can hold off the onset of the debilitating disease for up to two years. He says early diagnosis is key and can easily be accomplished if people are looking for it. He encourages people to contact the Alzheimer’s Association to find more information.
Dr. Simon is married with two adult children and resides in the Twin Cities area.
